City Lights
Izibani Zedolobha
City Lights’ explores the intricate beauty and tragedy of the evolving and decaying landscape of inner cities.
In this ebb and flow of growth and decay, cities at night have a particular magic, the darkness softening the decay and the lights hinting at life and activity.
In our installation the individual artwork components housed within the structure explore the problems around the evolution of African cities in particular including the effects of colonialism, independence, decentralisation, security and growth.
The use of light and animation is particularly effective in telling the stories of inner cities highlighting problems but also capturing the magic of human life.
